Veglio Luigi e Massimo

Via Cane Guido 108, Fraz. Valle Talloria | 12055 Diano d’Alba CN

History

It all began in 1931 at the family-owned Cascina Cappellano. In those days, as was customary in the Langa hills, mixed farming was practised, meaning tending both orchards and vineyards while also breeding cattle.
In the late 1950s, the father of the current owners worked with one of the many famous wine cooperatives in the area, learning the art of winemaking and bringing the family closer to that magical world.
Finally, in 1972, following in the footsteps of Cascina Cappellano, Luigi tried his hand at vinifying his first harvest and finally saw a label bearing the family name: it was the first big step towards today’s production activities. In those years, Dolcetto was much sought after and was considered the quintessential daily wine, consumed both at home as well as in the local taverns.

People

Since the 2000s, brothers Luigi and Massimo Veglio have been increasingly committed to realising their main objectives: full autonomy in winemaking and bottling, reducing yields in the vineyard and diligently cultivating every single plot of land. In 2012, the Veglio family began working towards obtaining organic certification, which can now be found on all of their wines. To this day, Massimo and Luigi are proud of this decision, which has been rewarding both in terms of the wines’ taste, originality and authenticity, while also favouring the earth and its natural cycle.

Vineyards

The vineyards are mainly located in Diano D'Alba, where the winery is based, but also in La Morra (where the Barolo DOCG Castagni is produced), Grinzane Cavour, Monforte d'Alba, Roddino and Montaldo Roero ( where Roero Arneis is produced). It has been several years now that the vineyards have been managed according to the principles of organic farming, avoiding the use of chemical products and pesticides of any kind, so as to preserve a healthy and harmonious habitat, essential both for the wines and for the winemakers.

Wines

The wines produced by the company all have a very strong connection to the Langa region: three different types of Barolo, Diano d'Alba DOCG, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis DOCG, a Chardonnay and an Orange wine.
