Voerzio Roberto

Località Cerretto, 7 | La Morra CN

History

The winery was established in 1986 in La Morra, a small village in the heart of the Langhe region that has always been known for its prestigious vineyards, some of which bear the same name written in the town's books since 1350. Roberto Voerzio started making wine at the age of twenty in the family business, and then created his own small, prestigious enterprise in 1986. The vineyards are in the areas historically most suited to the production of quality Barolo, including La Serra, Brunate, Cerequio, Case Nere and Rocche dell'Annunziata. Vineyards that Roberto has acquired over time in order to have, as he says, "privileged areas that produce wines the way I like them". The philosophy behind Roberto Voerzio's bottles is that to produce high quality wines you simply need two things: to have vineyards in good locations and to produce few grapes.

People

The family is now family-run. Over the years, Roberto Voerzio has always worked together with valuable and trustworthy collaborators in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, including oenologist Cesare Bussolo who has been with him since 2007.

Vineyards

Roberto started with 2 hectares and over the years has managed to acquire the most prestigious and historic crus for the production of Barolo. What distinguishes Roberto Voerzio is certainly the selection work in the vineyard: through a very short winter pruning, with a number of buds per plant between 5 and 8, and then two summer thinnings that lead to a rigorous selection of the bunches, Voerzio arrives at very low yields that vary from 350 grams to 1 - 1.5 kg per plant. Particularly important is the second thinning out that takes place in mid-August, where the size of each bunch is reduced by cutting off the lower part and leaving the richer, more concentrated upper part. Roberto has always maintained that with this type of selection, little is produced but the concentration increases, the wine preserves the tannin that is its backbone and is enriched with pulp. These and other small measures make it possible to harvest very healthy and ripe grapes every year, rich in sugar, aromas and scents that are transferred to the wine during fermentation.

Wines

The wines produced represent the great crus of La Morra: Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata, Brunate, Case Nere, Fossati, Cerequio, La Serra, Torriglione and Saramassa in Barolo. Barbera is produced in two variants: Barbera "Il Cerreto" and the prestigious Barbera Pozzo dell'Annunziata produced only in magnum in the best vintages. The excellent selection is completed by Dolcetto "Priavino" and Nebbiolo "Disanfrancesco".
