Ratti

Frazione Annunziata, 7 | La Morra CN

History

Renato Ratti, after his oenology studies in Alba, moved to Brazil, where he worked on the production of Vermouth and sparkling wines for Cinzano in Sao Paulo. In 1965 Renato got back to Piedmont, where he bought his first vineyard for the production of Barolo: a small vineyard in the historical area of Marcenasco, under the Annunziata abbey in La Morra. In 1969 his nephew Massimo Martinelli joined the company: he was an oenologist too and they perfectioned the vinification, maturation and refinement techniques for Barolo Marcenasco. After Renato’s untimely death, his son Pietro joined the company.

People

Pietro Ratti, who studied at the oenology school in Alba, in the 1990s undertook the enlargement and the refurbishment of the family vineyards and he continued the search for uniqueness of origin in the various sub-zones.

Vineyards

In 1965 Renato Ratti bought the first small vineyard of Barolo Marcenasco – about two Piedmonts days (7000 square metres). Today there are 35 hecatres, divided into 6 estates located in La Morra, Mango and Costigliole d’Asti. These different vines, microclimates and soils are cultivated with the same respect for the grapes and the surrounding environment.

The wines produced are mainly red: Langhe Dolcetto, Barbera d'Alba, Barbera d'Asti, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barolo Marcenasco, Barolo Conca, Barolo Rocche dell' Annunziata.
