Alessandria Crissante

Borgata Roggeri, 44 Frazione Santa Maria | La Morra CN

History

The company was born in 1958, when Crissante Alessandria, winemaker son of winemakers, together with his wife Teresa – called Gina, decided to vinify grapes from the family's own vineyards, grapes that until then had been sold to the most important historical wine cellars of the Langhe. Within the underground walls of the Cascina Roggeri in Santa Maria di La Morra, with a blend of Nebbiolo grapes from the Roggeri, Capalot and San Biagio cru, Crissante produced his first Barolo aged in 25-quintal Slavonian oak barrels, using the traditional system. As the years went by, the company grew, new vineyards were bought in excellent locations in the commune of La Morra and his sons, Michele and Roberto, began to vinify the Capalot and Roggeri crus separately, gradually renewing the wood in the cellar. In 1998, the first ever Barolo was produced, made from overripe grapes, destemmed by hand, berry by berry, vinified and aged by hand. This Barolo exists only in magnum and is sold in the winery by appointment. In the following years, Michele's two sons, Alberto and Luca, joined the company and it is Alberto's work to produce a Barolo grappa obtained from fresh Nebbiolo marc aged in barriques. Particular attention is paid to the labels, which depict scenes linked to mythology, Bacchus and the Bacchae, created by the recently deceased Italian-Greek artist Carlo Carosso.
