Via Alba /Barolo, 8 | Castiglione Falletto CN

History

Launched with the 2013 vintage, ArnaldoRivera wines are the result of an official protocol signed between Cantina Terre del Barolo and a number of its winegrowing members, which provides for:
- The identification of parcels located in the most prestigious areas of the denomination and with essential pedoclimatic characteristics to produce grapes of excellence.
- The constant monitoring of the conditions of each vineyard by the winery's in-house team of agronomists, biologists and geologists throughout the cycle of the vintage.
- The possibility of sacrificing a vintage or a specific vineyard if the health of the grapes is deemed unsuitable.
- Investment in state-of-the-art cellar equipment to guarantee the absolute preservation of the quality obtained in the vineyard.

People

Arnaldo Rivera was born on 13 December 1919 in Castiglione Falletto. He was a primary school teacher, mayor of his village for 37 years, and founder, in 1958, of the Terre del Barolo winery, still the only cooperative winery in the Barolo area. The reasons that led Arnaldo Rivera to imagine a cooperative winery project in Barolo are linked to his deep knowledge of the peculiarities of the territory and its people. Arnaldo Rivera believed that 'a social entity that acts democratically by distributing income in relation to the participation of its members can be a winning idea, breaking down the prejudice that men are destined to be armed against each other in the name of privilege and individual selfishness'.
He was president of the Consorzio del Barolo e Barbaresco from 1980 to 1983. His greatest work, however, was the creation of the Terre del Barolo winery, carried out with tenacity, overcoming hostility and problems, with the conviction of an indispensable choice, on the side of the weakest to react to the conditions of subordination and defend their human dignity. Arnaldo Rivera, who had no children, thus assumed indirect responsibility for five hundred families, wine-growing members, with just as many budgets to safeguard. It is in his honour that the project that bears his name was born in 2013.
